Stars of tomorrow will shine beginning tonight on Cape Cod

Posted by Joshua Kummins on June 13, 2010

The 126th season of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League kicks off tonight at Spillane Field in Wareham as the Cotuit Kettleers face the Wareham Gatemen at 5 p.m.

Wareham’s starter will be a local product Matt Barnes (UCONN), a Bethel, CT native. The Gatemen roster always features many local faces, including the usual Harvard to Wareham connection, because of former president John Wylde.

The familiar name from Cotuit is outfielder Michael Yaztremski, grandson of former Red Sox star Carl.

The other eight teams begin tomorrow.
