On Campus: BC, UMaine open 2010 slates this weekend

Posted by Joshua Kummins on February 18, 2010

The local college baseball season opens on Friday, as Boston College and Maine hit the road for the first time in 2010.

BC heads to the Big Easy for a weekend series against the Tulane Green Wave. The Eagles were 34-26 in 2009, a season in which they qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 42 years. They were picked to finish third in the ACC Atlantic Division. This weekend series marks the first leg of a 20-game, 10,000-mile journey before the Eagles’ first home game on March 23.

Maine heads to Beaumont, Texas for a three-game series against the Lamar Cardinals at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Black Bears were picked to finish as America East champions in the pre-season poll, after finishing 32-23 last season. They led the America East in team batting (.319), pitching (4.60 ERA) and fielding percentage (.966) in 2009.
