Minors: Bonser and Strasburg set to tangle at McCoy on Monday

Posted by Joshua Kummins on May 12, 2010

THURSDAY UPDATE: The Chiefs are giving Strasburg an extra day of rest, according to Peter Abraham, meaning that he will miss his start at McCoy Stadium.

Steven Strasburg and the Syracuse Chiefs (WSH) will come to New England on Monday afternoon, May 17 at 12:05 p.m. as he faces the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium. This is New England’s chance to watch the top draft pick of the Washington Nationals pitch against the future Red Sox. Boof Bonser will be pitching for the PawSox.

Strasburg threw six no-hit innings tonight against Norfolk (BAL) as the Chiefs beat the Tides.

Bonser threw four two-hit innings for the PawSox against the Gwinnett Braves (ATL) in a 6-0 shutout win.

Minors: Strasburg impresses in Triple-A debut; McCoy next

Pitching phenom Steven Strasburg debuted in Triple-A with the Syracuse Chiefs on Friday. (Glenn Gaston)

In his first game at Triple-A, 2009 top draft pick Steven Strasburg logged six shutout innings to lead the Syracuse Chiefs (Nationals) to a 7-0 win over the Gwinnett Braves Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 13,766 at Alliance Bank Stadium. He allowed just one walk and struck out six, while his fastball topped out at 95 miles per hour in the stadium.

Before being promoted to Syracuse, he went 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA in five starts/22 innings for the Double-A Harrisburg Senators.

If he follows a five-day rotation, his next scheduled outing would be Wednesday night against the Norfolk Tides (Orioles) and then all signs point that Strasburg will possibly make his final rehab start against Pawtucket at McCoy Stadium on Monday, May 17.
