KCT On Campus: Eagles top Huskies to win Beanpot title

After winning a scary first round game against Harvard, which saw a late-inning rally, the Boston College Eagles (20-17) had a much easier road to a 9-3 win over the Northeastern Huskies (7-18) on Wednesday night to capture the 2010 Baseball Beanpot title at Campanelli Stadium.

An RBI triple by Frank Compagnone gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Andrew Lawrence countered with an RBI triple of his own to tie the score at 1-1 in the second inning.

In the third inning, the Maroon and Gold broke the game open as they put a five spot on the board, thanks in large part to a three-run home run by Anthony Melchionda, his fourth of the year.

Matt Miller took a trot around the bases for the second time this season in the bottom of the inning as he hit a two-run shot to make it a three-run ballgame.

BC closed the scoring in the fourth inning as Mickey Wiswall hit another long three-run home run to give the Eagles a 9-3 lead, which they never gave back.

Starter J.T. Ross took the loss for the Huskies as he allowed six runs and five earned runs, while walking two. It was his fourth loss of the season. Dave Laufer was the winner for the second time this season as he tossed two innings of relief, allowing two hits and two earned runs, while walking one and striking out five.
