The Red Sox bats helped starter John Lackey win his eighth game of the season on Thursday night as they beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-5, at Fenway Park. With the win, the Sox sweep the three-game series and improve to 7-2 in Interleague Play.

Both teams traded runs in the first inning as Miguel Montero hit an RBI double to center field and Kevin Youkilis drove in the Red Sox’ run on an infield groundout.

In the third, the D-Backs took a 2-1 lead on an RBI double to left field, while David Ortiz smashed a two-run home run to center field (14) in the bottom of the inning for a 3-2 Sox lead.

Arizona plated two more in the top of the fourth and fifth innings on a Kelly Johnson RBI single to right and another Miguel Montero double to center.

The Sox turned it on in the fifth inning and held Arizona scoreless until they were down to their final out. In the fifth, Marco Scutaro doubled home another run, while Adrian Beltre singled home the go-ahead run one inning later.

Marco Scutaro made it 6-4 on a sacrifice fly to to right field in the sixth inning. Daniel Nava and Scutaro doubled to right and singled to center in the eighth inning.

Chris Young doubled to center field for the D-Backs in the ninth inning to make the final score of 8-5.

John Lackey pitched a sold six innings to earn the win, allowing eight hits and three earned runs, while walking two and fanning five. Dan Haren allowed seven hits and four earned runs over 5.2 innings, while walking three and whiffing four.

The Red Sox will look to ride their three-game series sweep into a weekend Interleague series against Manny Ramirez and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Felix Doubront will be called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to make his Major League debut, against Carlos Monasterios in tonight’s series opener.
