Clay Buchholz surrendered just three runs and recorded eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings to pick up his team-leading ninth win in Tuesday’s 6-3 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Fenway Park. The Sox have now won three of the last four games and five of the last seven against Arizona.

Arizona got on the board in the first as Adam LaRoche hit an RBI single to center field for a 1-0 lead.

However, things changed quickly for the Sox as they bailed out their new ace. David Ortiz made it a 2-1 lead as he hit a two-run home run to center field (13) in the bottom of the inning.

The Sox put up three runs in the third when Dustin Pedroia doubled to left field, Daniel Nava scored on a wild pitch and Victor Martinez hit an RBI infield single to shortstop that he beat out.

In the fourth, the D-Backs tacked on two more on a two-RBI double to left field by Justin Upton.

Kevin Youkilis made it 6-3 in the fifth inning as he doubled to left field to plate a run.

With the win, Buchholz improves to 9-4, while Jonathan Papelbon was perfect in the ninth for his 14th save. Ian Kennedy took the loss for Arizona as he allowed nine hits and six runs over six innings to fall to 3-4.

The Red Sox return to action on Wednesday night when Jon Lester will face Rodrigo Lopez at 7:10.
