BROOKLINE, Massachusetts (Sunday, March 21, 2010) – We took in our first baseball game of the season on Sunday afternoon, as the Northeastern Huskies faced the Bryant Bulldogs in the finale of a three-game weekend series at Friedman Diamond in Brookline.
Northeastern (6-4) won the first two games of the series on Friday in Brookline and on Saturday at Smithfield, but the Bulldogs (3-11) pounded the Huskies, 16-4.
BU manufactured three straight hits to score a run off the bat in the first inning, before taking a 5-0 lead in the second inning, thanks to three hits and an error.
Northeastern made it a one-run game with all four runs on three hits in the second.
Bryant broke the game open in the middle innings with eight runs in the fourth and sixth innings. They sent 11 men to the plate in the fourth inning, scoring six runs and four hits, as well as a fielding error by the Huskies.
They closed the scorebook with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Junior second baseman Zakary Cianciolo hit the game’s only home run to left field in the top of the ninth inning.
JuniorĀ first baseman Tim Norton led the Bryant offense, going 3-for-6, with two runs and four RBI, while sophomore Matt Miller led the Huskies with two hits in four at bats, as well as scoring three runs.
