The Red Sox announced that they will send seven players to the Arizona Fall League, the prospect-laden finishing school for future big leaguers. This October, the Sox will be affiliated with the Peoria Javelinas:
RHP Seth Garrison
SS Jose Iglesias
C Ryan Lavarnway
OF Juan Carlos Linares
RHP Jason Rice
RHP Daniel Turpen
RHP Casey Kelly is also expected to join the team as he is sitting out the remainder of the minor league season with a minor lat strain.
Linares is the Cuban outfielder who was signed earlier this season, but has played only 11 games so far and is finishing up the season with Portland. He turns 26 next Tuesday.
Turpen, who is also in Portland, was traded to the Red Sox in the deal that sent Ramon Ramirez to San Francisco.
The Javelinas will also feature Cleveland, Houston, Seattle, and Toronto minor leaguers. Mike Sarbaugh, the skipper of the Triple-A Columbus Clippers (CLE), will manage the club.
The AFL season kicks off on Tuesday, October 12.
